Have you got a few questions that need answering about wood floor sanding and finishing in Sidcup DA14? You must have! Here we’ve listed the more usual ones we’ve encountered during our 20 years in the business. It’s by no means exhaustive, so please contact us if your particular questions are not included and we’ll be happy to help.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FROM START TO FINISH?
Most wood flooring projects in Sidcup are done in three stages. The floor first of all needs to be repaired if necessary and in almost all cases have the gaps between boards filled in. Then the boards or tiles will be sanded down up to three times using advanced, dust-retaining machines to get them perfectly smooth and level. Lastly, a finish will be applied.
The repairs and sanding will take a day for an average room such as a bathroom or dining room, or a hallway. The finish will take a further day to apply, and then the floor must be left alone for the finish top cure the hardwood for another couple of days. A little more time may be needed if repairs to the flooring prove to be extensive. This will all come out in your free on-site assessment, so you’ll be fully aware of how long the work will take before you agree to it.
CAN I EXPECT A LOT OF DISRUPTION AND MESS?
In the early days, when we first started out as a small family business delivering wood floor services in Sidcup, there was a lot of mess to cope with. However, the latest sanding machines are specially designed with dust-retention in mind. Just about all of the dust they churn up is fed into onboard sacks rather than into the air. The fact that our machines are maintained to peak performance also helps by reducing the amount of dust that is actually generated.
Our Sidcup wood floor sanding and finishing teams also seal off other parts of the property with tape before they set to work, and when they complete the job they tidy everything up. So your home of business will probably be a lot cleaner after we leave than it was when we arrived!
IS IT GOING TO INTERRUPT MY BUSINESS OPERATIONS?
For corporate clients, we’re happy to arrange to do the work outside of your normal hours of business to further reduce disruption. With schools, we can do it during the holidays so you have a shiny, tough new floor for the start of the next term.
IS WOODEN FLOORING BAD FOR MY ALLERGY?
It’s quite the opposite, actually. By ripping out the fitted carpets you’ll be removing the natural habitat of dust mites, which love soft furnishings. Carpets are the equivalent of the Amazonian rain forest for them! They breed and thrive in this micro system, munching away at the shed human skin scales, which make up most of the dust in a room. Evict them and you also remove the main cause of allergic reactions. You can use attractive rugs which are easy to wash and dry rather than fitted carpets.
DO I REALLY HAVE TO FILL THE GAPS?
When you take up the fitted carpets in favour of a bare wooden floor you’ll have to get the gaps properly filled in. this is necessary to eliminate draughts between the flooring and airbricks in the walls of the property. Draughts will not only be uncomfortable for the inhabitants, but will also drive up your heating bills. Plugging and sanding the gaps will also give the flooring a more aesthetically pleasing aspect. We use a variety of professional sealants based on silicon and resin products, all eco-friendly and much more efficient than general purpose wood fillers from the local DIY store.
HAVE YOU SEEN HOW BAD MY FLOOR LOOKS? IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO RESURRECT THIS, RIGHT?
Believe us when we say that some of the floors we’ve come across have looked like complete wrecks and beyond rescue! And in 20 years, we’ve seen it all. But before you opt for a new one, we advise you to arrange a free on-site assessment so we can check it out. Usually, the hard dirt and grime are actually protecting fresh wood underneath and we just need to strip away the upper layers to beautifully restore it. Contact us today to arrange an appointment.
